I'll add to this post as and when I find more folders that can be done away with.

- MSOCACHE on C:\ - This is a cache of Office used during Setup & Maintenance. If you have the disk, go nuts...
- Vista and above. C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution - This is where all Automatic Updates are stored - presumably for rollback purposes. Before deleting, the wuauserv service needs to be stopped:
- Start an elevated CMD prompt
- Type net stop wuauserv then press enter
- Type rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftDist.old then press enter
- Type net start wuauserv then press enter to restart the Windows Update service
- Type exit then press enter
- Check that a new SoftwareDistribution folder has been created and it's around 1.5MB
- Restart and check windows update has no issues.
- Delete the .old folder
- XP. C:\System Volume Information - This is where XP stores all it's System Restore points. If you can't access the Security Tab for this folder's properties, turn Simple File Sharing off. Give yourself full control. Delete whichever RP's you need to. If you don't rely on system restore, go nuts...
- XP(2K). $NtUninstallKB123456$ - This is the XP equivalent of number 2 above. Make sure you can see hidden folders. C:\Windows\$NtUninstallKB123456$ Delete as close to the latest updates as you dare...
